Poligami dalam perspektif sosio kultural religius (kajian terhadap pro kontra praktek poligami)
Abstract
Polygamy is a marriage practice that allows a man to have more than one wife, which continues to be a topic of debate in socio-cultural and religious contexts. This article examines the pros and cons of polygamy based on social, cultural and religious perspectives, highlighting how society understands this practice and its impact on family structure. The research method used is qualitative through literature study and thematic analysis to explore the views of various parties.The research results show that supporters of polygamy base their arguments on religious texts, traditions, and certain social needs, such as protecting women and increasing social stability. On the other hand, opponents of polygamy highlight the challenges of justice being difficult to achieve, the potential for family conflict, and the negative psychological impact on wives and children. In the modern context, polygamy is also considered less relevant because it contradicts the principles of gender equality and human rights.This article emphasizes the importance of a responsible approach in deciding on the practice of polygamy by paying attention to legal requirements and the value of justice. This research recommends strengthening regulations, educating the public, and reinterpreting religious teachings to adapt these practices to contemporary social dynamics
