Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Eucharistic Prayer in the Eucharistic Liturgy, analyze its textual meaning, and examine its musical structure at St. Paul Catholic Church, Pasar Baru, Padang Bulan Parish, Medan. The research employs a qualitative method with an ethnomusicological approach. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and literature review of the Eucharistic celebration, particularly during the Solemnity of Pentecost. The analysis focuses on ritual practices, liturgical texts, and musical elements found within the Eucharistic Prayer. The findings reveal that the Eucharistic Prayer serves as the center and summit of the Eucharistic celebration, integrating theological, symbolic, and musical dimensions into a unified ritual experience. Textually, the Eucharistic Prayer contains elements of praise, thanksgiving, anamnesis, epiclesis, consecration, and doxology that represent God's saving work through Jesus Christ. Musically, the priest's intonation, congregational responses, and the relationship between text and melody contribute to the creation of a sacred atmosphere that enhances the faithful's spiritual experience. The study demonstrates that the textual and musical elements of the Eucharistic Prayer play a significant role in fostering active participation and deepening religious experience during liturgical celebrations. This research is expected to contribute to the development of ethnomusicological studies, liturgical music scholarship, and theological understanding of the Eucharistic Prayer within the Catholic Church tradition.
