PENGARUH TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP TERHADAP TURNOVER INTENTION GENERASI Z MELALUI INTERNAL COMMUNICATION DAN EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of transformational leadership on the turnover intention in Generation Z through internal communication and employee engagement. This study was conducted using quantitative methods. Data were collected using the purposive sampling method, by distributing questionnaires through Microsoft Form to 135 Generation Z employees working in ten companies that provide fixed broadband and pay-TV services. In conformity with the number of respondents reached, Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM PLS) was used to test the hypothesis in this study. The results of this study indicate that transformational leadership triggers internal communication and reduces the tendency of employees to leave their jobs. However, transformational leadership was not proven to affect employee engagement. The hypothesis of this study also shows that internal communication can strengthen employee engagement, but it was not proven that it will lessen their intention to quit their jobs. In this study, employee engagement was proven to have a significant and negative effect on turnover intention. That is, an increase in employee engagement will result in a decrease in employees intention to abandon their jobs. The findings of this study indicate that employee engagement has no effect in mediating transformational leadership on turnover intention. Internal communication also has no effect in mediating transformational leadership on turnover intention. This study confirms that in order for internal communication and employee engagement to function as mediating variables for transformational leadership on turnover intention, support from other variables is required. Further study needs to be conducted with a larger number of samples, while conducting comparative studies in other homogeneous companies, adding organizational culture variables, and conducting research to analyze the role of employee engagement in mediating internal communication on turnover intention.
