Abstract

This research discusses the makeup and costumes in the Sembah Berambak Dance, an innovative dance derived from the Setabik dance of Musi Banyuasin. The aim of this study is to analyze the role and function of makeup and costumes in the context of the dance. The research method employed is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through direct observation, interviews, and documentary studies. The findings indicate that the makeup and costumes in the Sembah Berambak Dance play a crucial role in portraying the character and theme of the dance, as well as enhancing the expression of the dancers. Makeup involves the use of facial coloring and head adornments, while the costumes consist of the dodot fabric and the paesan pak sangko headgear. These elements reflect the cultural identity and the original region of the dance. Moreover, the makeup and costumes also serve as a medium to communicate cultural messages and values to the audience. In conclusion, this article suggests the importance of preserving and maintaining this traditional dance by preserving and respecting the makeup and costumes as an integral part of cultural identity. Further in-depth understanding, increased community appreciation, involvement of fashion designers and makeup experts, and collaborative efforts are necessary to enrich the knowledge about the makeup and costumes in the Sembah Berambak Dance. It is hoped that this article will provide valuable insights and contribute to the preservation and development of traditional dance art.
